MoveOn.org gives Movement For The People/ The Coffee Party a little help in Local Organizing around the Citizens United anniversary.

MoveOn.org is in its tenth year and going strong.  Nice to see MoveOn.org supporting the local organizing for the fledgling MOVEMENT FOR THE PEOPLE, being launched by The Coffee Party and Backbone Campaign.  Changing the Game has enjoyed working with MoveOn.org founder Joan Blades and appreciate her leadership and many accomplishments. Congratulations to all.  Walt

MoveOn: 10 years old, 5 million strong

It’s been an amazing 10 years, and we’re stronger than ever–4.2 million members as of today. We’ve prepared an interactive photo timeline that captures so many of the memories we’ve shared together. Thanks for all you do.

Subject: Citizens United anniversary event in Portland Tuesday
We’ve got to build a stronger movement to get corporate cash out of our elections. Can you join with your neighbors to mark the anniversary of the Citizens United ruling on Tuesdayin Portland?

RSVP

Dear MoveOn member,

This Friday marks one year since the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision granted corporations the right to spend unlimited money on elections. And last November we saw what that decision meant: record-shattering spending by giant corporate interests that threatens the integrity of our democracy—and big wins for the Republicans.1

But the new spending records aren’t going to last long. Until we build a strong enough movement to repeal Citizens United we’re going to see more and more secret money from corporations flooding our elections.

So this year, to mark the anniversary of Citizens United, our friends at the Coffee Party and the Movement for the People coalition are organizing rallies, teach-ins, film screenings and more in cities all across the country.

In Portland there’s an event on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at 7:00 PM.

Can you make it? Here’s a page from the Coffee Party website where you can RSVP and see all the details:http://my.coffeepartyusa.com/page/event/detail/publicforumpaneldiscussion/wr4j

If we’re going to reverse Citizens United we need to join with our neighbors and community to build a stronger movement and take action together to fix our democracy.

Hope you come on Tuesday in Portland.

Thanks for all you do.

–Robin, Ilyse, Laura, Eli, and the rest of the team

  1. When viewed in its historical setting.
The twelfth amendment of the U.S. Constitution provides the states with Veto Power over the tyranny of government.

The Electoral College was intended by our Founding Fathers to preserve the ancient Precedent established by the Israelites on the Plains of Encampment when Levi was in the Midst: also when the thirteen Chieftains of the lost tribes who had settled in Scandinavia held a TING to elect their King; likewise when the Pope is chosen: and this is the reason that when George Washington was likewise elected he was given the title of ~Mr. Precedent.

[With ambiguous placement, a modifier is confusing to a reader because it can refer to two or more words in a sentence.] ~(c) 1999 Prentice-Hall, Inc.

“The Electors…one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves…
. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice.” ~Amendment XII.
